HEH / International / Outgoing / Language test
The Online Linguistic Support “OLS” platform supports languages learning for students carrying out a mobility under the Erasmus+ programme. OLS offers the opportunity to evaluate your skills in the foreign language(s) you will use during your placement or studies abroad.
If your Erasmus+ mobility takes place in a European country where the working language you will use during your placement or period of studies is one of the 24 languages of the European Union - except French (Bulgarian, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Estonian, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hungarian, Irish, Italian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Maltese, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish, Swedish), then you will automatically receive an invitation to take a language test via your HEH email address. The procedure is clearly explained. Therefore pay close attention and check your mailbox regularly!
The language test is free. You must take it before departure. You have between one to two weeks to do it. At the end of your mobility, depending on the case and as stipulated in your grant agreement, you will have to take a second test in order to evaluate the potential progress you have achieved.
According to your results, you will automatically receive a free license for learning in order to improve your language skills, for your daily use at your convenience (the license is available 24 hours a day).
Since the 2022-2023 academic year, a new OLS language-learning platform has been implemented and is hosted on the EU Academy website. The Erasmus+ student will be told about the registration procedure before their departure.
For all practical purposes, here is the note giving the last information about the evolution of the new OLS platform.
This test is compulsory for all participants to Erasmus+ programme carrying out a mobility of at least two months (studies/placement/volunteering/long-term staff mobility), whose main working language/language of instruction is one of the following (except French): Bulgarian, English, German, Croatian, Spanish, Finnish, Italian, Hungarian, Dutch, Czech, Danish, Modern Greek, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Slovak and Swedish.
Participants to Erasmus+ programme must take the test twice, before departure and at the end of their mobility period, in order to evaluate their progress in the mobility language.
The online test evaluates their language skills – audition, reading and writing – according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
Only participants and institutions/bodies which are responsible for their selection receive the test results. For higher education students, results are not shared with the host institution/organisation.
