HEH / International / Outgoing / Insurances
The participant must be covered by an appropriate insurance during his/her mobility, whether it is for studies or an internship.
1. Health insurance
If you travel within the European Union, the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) allows enjoying healthcare reimbursement from your host country’s social welfare, as long as this reimbursement is provided for by regulations.
Be careful: according to the country you are in, the levels of coverage and steps to be taken may be different. Inform yourself before departure.
A copy of the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) is attached to the grant agreement (document inherent to the mobility file) under the participant’s name (policyholder liable to his or her mutual fund).
If the host organisation is in charge of covering the risks, please be sure to mention the insurance policy number or reference as well as the company name.
If you carry out a mobility outside the European Union, we recommend you to be well informed about health coverage and procedures to follow on site before departure. Indeed, the coverage will be more or less advantageous depending on your destination country.
The participant’s national health insurance system usually offers a basic coverage during their stay outside the European Union. This requires having the European Health Insurance Card in their possession. However, the European card or a private insurance may not be enough, for instance, in case of repatriation or specific medical intervention.
In this way, for any mobility, the student will make sure that he or she takes a repatriation insurance to their insurance company or travel agency at their own expense, in order to ensure full insurance coverage.
Thanks to refer to Appendix VI of the grant agreement for any further information.
If the host organisation is in charge of covering the risks, please be sure to mention the insurance policy number or reference as well as the company name.
2. Public liability insurance
Terms and conditions of school insurance (covering any damage caused by the student on placement/course site during their stay in Belgium and abroad) are specified in Appendix VI of the grant agreement along with the implementing procedures (French version certificate) – (English version certificate).
3. Accident insurance
Terms and conditions of insurance for accidents at work (covering at least any damage suffered by the student on placement/course site during their stay in Belgium and abroad) are specified in Appendix VI of the grant agreement along with the implementing procedures (French version certificate) – (English version certificate).
If the host organisation is in charge of covering the risks, please be sure to mention the insurance policy number or reference as well as the company name.
