In technical installations, counting is often used, for example for counting bottles, bags, cars, parts, containers…
The tasks of counting are carried out directly by the CPU using the operations indicated in the table below.
The pre-selection value is comprised between 0 and 9999 (4 decades).
The use of the counter is done by testing by comparison with the current value.
It is to be noticed that this counter can also be useful in the techniques of positioning because it can contain negative values.
Programming a counter with ProcesSim:
Example 1: with static positioning value (20)

Notes :
1. To select the positioning value (start value), right click on the editing area (see picture above)
2. The positioning value comes from :
a counter value ;
a timer value ;
a BCD display ;
a thumbwheel counter ;
an analog word (input ,output , memory ).
